Why do you volunteer?
I started volunteering to get out into the Danish society and work with something that really interests me. I was also interested in gaining experience for my CV and meeting some new friends.
Why at Save The Children Youth?
They have a lot of great projects, but what first attracted me was a development project called Dreamcatcher, which fit with my educational background in development and international relations.
How did you find the job?
I attended both an introduction event, which they hold twice a year, and that's how I became involved with Kenya group. Later I saw an ad on frivillig.dk for a project leader position with Brovst Refuge Group. I had great experiences with the organisation so I decided to go for it.
How is the environment?
The volunteering environment is great. It really is a lot of fun and laidback, but at the same time we come together to make a noticeable difference in the lives of children.
What is your best volunteering experience?
It's hard to name just one specific best experience. When visiting the asylum centre and seeing how happy it makes the kids when we play with them is fantastic. Receiving something they have made themselves during a craft time and want you to have is also very special.
What do you gain from volunteering?
I gain a sense of accomplishment from volunteering. It feels great! I also get the opportunity to practice my Danish.
What are your team members like?
My team members are amazing. We have people from around the world in our project, so that in itself is a great thing. We have a lot of fun.
What characterizes volunteering in 3 words? In only 3 words I would say volunteering is fun, empowering and vital.
What surprised you the most in volunteering in Dk?
I was surprised about how easy it was to find a place to volunteer. Save the Children Youth, for example, is always looking for new members.
Did you find any friends through volunteering?
Yes I did. It's almost impossible not to!
